Montreal. A modular glass pavilion standing above the city

Espace C2, designed by Montreal-based Sid Lee Architecture, sits atop of the Fairmont Queen Elizabeth hotel and is part of the structure’s business campus where conferences and events take place on the backdrop of the city’s towers and skyscrapers. Espace C2 has been awarded the Best Event Spaces prize at the AHEAD Americas 2018.

The building appears as a glass pavilion with a steel structure and it develops in two floors. The pavilion perforates the existing roof of the building, which concrete and brick structures are left visible. On this floor, the dimension of the rooms varies allowing for different activities to take place, spanning from large conferences to meetings. The sloping line of the roof accompanies the visitor to the upper floor, on a wide terrace. The main facade appears as a pleated glass surface divided in five bays; this design becomes a spatial division in the interiors and the reference for the design of the roof.
