Design firm: Margine
Project name: Casa Lèvanzo
Location: Caprarica, Lecce, Italy
Dimensions: 140 sq m
In the small Salento village of Caprarica, Margine has intervened on a typical 1970s villa, updating its functional and aesthetic aspects in line with contemporary living requirements. Externally, the project operates through a logic of formal simplification, removing canopies, overhangs and incongruous additions accumulated over time, with the aim of recapturing the clarity of the original volume characterised by the aggregation of the cylindrical body of the living room and the rectangular body of the sleeping area. A uniform finish of white plaster returns a unified appearance to the complex, evoking the essential and abstract geometries of the Mediterranean vernacular. Inside, bespoke oak joinery, contemporary furnishings and a few elements with a strong sculptural feel — such as the fireplace in the living room, set within a base clad in black stoneware that marks the separation from the dining area — create a warm and varied domestic landscape. Natural light floods the spaces and shapes their perception, emphasising the contrast between the purity of the immaculate surfaces and the rich texture of the original Rosa del Garda marble floors, in a constant balance between ethereality and material density.
