Marmomac 2017

The 52nd edition of Marmomac, the international exhibition dedicated to natural stone, will be held in Verona from 27 to 30 September.

Marmomac accompanies and reflects evolution in a sector that in 2016 posted 3% growth in global quarrying activity compared to 2015, producing 145 million tonnes of marble and granite. And even though market balances have shifted over the last twenty years – increasingly focusing on Asia, thanks to China, India and Turkey that together account for over 55% of global stone production – the guiding role as regards business, culture, training and experimentation is still identified with Italy.

Three shows will be hosted in Hall 1: “Territorio & Design”, curated by Galiotto and Pavan, analyses topics associated with design using natural stone by highlighting the special features of materials from various production and processing centres in Italy in order to promote technical content based on tradition and the cultural heritage. This exhibition focuses on Indoor and outdoor products and furnishings produced using highly innovative technologies to exploit the full potential of materials.

“Soul of City”, curated by architecture historian and critic Luca Molinari, is a research project into the use of stone which borrows the theme of the UIA 2017 Congress scheduled in September in Seoul. The exhibition will involve important architecture studios from several countries working with Italian companies on projects that enhance the use of stone at the same time as promoting an articulated landscape of different architectures.
