The range was born after Marimekko’s design team asked Seth Andersson, known for her minimalistic handwriting, to create organic forms for its Spring/Summer collection. Inspired by the challenge, she offered her interpretation of Marimekko’s design language in the form of three prints: Basket, Hortensie and Spaljé. The prints reflect the contrast between organic and geometric forms seen in city environments. Seth Andersson designed the prints by hand, using tape to create the graphical yet soft prints. The collection includes printed fabrics, kitchen textiles and tableware items.
The unconventional way of placing the prints on tableware items was the result of collaboration and enriching discussions between Seth Andersson and Ruotsalainen, the designer of Marimekko’s Oiva tableware range. Seth Andersson gave Ruotsalainen free hands to use the prints on his designs so that they complement the forms of the products, and vice versa. The collection also includes two-toned cups, bowls and plates, designed by Ruotsalainen that have been partially dipped in coloured glaze, making each item unique.
