We’ve selected a series of events, designers and venues that we’ll be following at the Fuorisalone 2018: from up-and-coming talents to unchallenged design masters, new spaces and historic buildings, with hybrids between fashion and architecture. Among the novelties there’s Alcova, curated by Joseph Grima and Valentina Ciuffi, at the former panettone factory G. Cova, north of Loreto. It’s an all-Milanese space, not part of the traditional circuits, with Italian and international designers, like Gijs Bakker, Bloc Studios and Architetti Artigiani Anonimi. At 5Vie, the fresh talent of Sara Ricciardi will bring the ambience of an Austrian castle to the city, thanks to an exhibition curated by Alice Stori Liechtenstein, while the historic archive of Nanda Vigo will be the focus of a show with some iconic works.
Gufram caught our attention with Disco Gufram, a collection of fluorescent carpets, strobe globes and metallic sofas. At the Fonderia Artistica Battaglia, Giustini Stagetti will host the works of famous designers like Umberto Riva and Giacomo Moor with new collections in wood. Among the companies, Daikin and Ceasarstone have invited Nendo and Snarkitecture to, respectively, give shape to precious stones and glass with never-before-seen collections. This year, COS has involved the artist Philip K. Smith III, already present in California with his reflective installations at Desert X. We have to mention the delicate touch of the duo Raw Edges for Wonderglass, at Spazio Krizia. Finally, a detour right outside the city for the exhibition “Villa Borsani: Casa Libera!” by Ambra Medda, which precedes the retrospective on the Archivio Borsani in mid-May at the Triennale, curated by Norman Foster and Tommaso Fantoni.
