Outcomist wins the international competition on invitation for the masterplan of the Porta Romana railway hub in Milan, with the project Campo Selvatico.
The team is composed by Diller Scofidio + Renfro, PLP Architecture, Carlo Ratti Associati, Gross. Max, Nigel Dunnett Studio, Arup, Portland Design, Systematica, Studio Zoppini, Aecom, LAND, Artelia.
The project follows the guidelines of the Municipality of Milan and is aligned with the protocols of the Paris Agreement, the European Green Deal and the National Recovery and Resilience Plan defined at the level of the United Nations SDGs. The tender for the purchase of the area, called for by FS Sistemi Urbani and Rete Ferroviaria Italiana, was won by the consortium formed by Coima, Covivio and Prada Holding, which is the promoter of the "Porta Romana" real estate investment fund. This announcement, made last November, was followed up by the launch of the international competition in December 2020.

The Porta Romana terminal is located between the city center and some outer areas already undergoing redevelopment, also near the Milan headquarters of Fondazione Prada. These 190,000 m² will see the redevelopment of the already partially disused railway area, of which 100,000 m² will be used as a park. This transformation will therefore allow to cross what today is a barrier, making it easier to move between the center and the south/south-east area of Milan.

It will be here that the athletes competing at the XXV Winter Olympic Games in Milan-Cortina in 2026 will be hosted. After the event, the Olympic village - as the result of a public-private partnership - will be transformed into housing for about 1,000 students. The Milan mayor Giuseppe Sala, during the press conference, has reinforced the hope that the area will become a “neighborhood for young people”.
The consortium has thus defined its areas of intervention: Coima is in charge of the construction of the village and the residential component, including subsidized dwellings; Covivio instead will manage the part for offices and services, while Prada, in addition to the construction of a building to extend its existing activities in the area, will take care of the green.
