Guatemala. A cantilivered dwelling immersed in the natural landscape

Around a small hut, Paz Arquitectura builds a residence featuring hybrid spaces between inside and outside and an intimate relationship with nature.

An intimate relationship with the landscape and the connection between internal and external spaces: these are the main features of the project by Paz Arquitectura for La Cabañita, a residence surrounded by nature in Guatemala City. The complex is built around a small hut built in 1965, with a classic pitched roof and a cantilevered base platform on the hill. 30 years later, the project expands with other structures that interact with the existing building. The roof of the two new blocks have in fact the same inclination as the existing one, but they are overturned, acquiring an identity of their own.

The different sections of the house are not parallel to each other, to follow the topography of the hill. Between the blocks some interstices have been left to create glimpses of the landscape. A transparent corridor unites the three volumes, allowing a strong relationship with nature. The materials used for the construction are metal, wood and glass. The new modules, as well as the existing hut, have a wider platform than the base of the covered area. The outdoor spaces are all interconnected with each other, so as not to define specific paths and allow a smooth mobility.
