Italy. A modern and efficient winery

In Fossalta di Portogruaro, Italy, Westway Architects designed a “citadel of wine”, with a particular attention to environmental sustainability.

The Center Vittorio Emanuele Marzotto, designed by the Westway Architects studio, includes an avant-garde bottling line and a new storage area. The Center covers an area of 2,600 square meters and allows for the bottling of both still and sparkling wines using the same line. The old buildings of the original industrial hub, dating from the 1930s, have been converted, creating a more modern and efficient work environment.

The present structure helps to contain the noise of the machinery and places great attention on the layout of the line as a whole, so as to make things easier for the workers at all stages of the process. The titanium zinc-clad “sails” have been designed to protect the glass walls and prevent the heat and glare of direct sunlight during the brightest hours of the day. Between the vinification cellar and the new bottling line there is now an urban-inspired piazza, from which one can observe all of the phases of production, from vinification to bottling. The complex of buildings constitutes a sort of “citadel of wine”. All of the plant and equipment of the new Centro Aziendale Vittorio Emanuele Marzotto has been conceived with a view to saving water and electrical energy.
