“I have always been loyal and dedicated” says timidly Colonna, born in 1988 from the hands of Italian master Alessandro Mendini. “If you insist, I can open my doors and drawers to let you see my heart.” The latest video of the Object Interview series stresses the concept of heritage, especially when the father of a project is no longer with us. “I wanted to finish with the notion of legacy, tributing the recent departure of Alessandro Mendini” explains Alexandre Humbert. “How do objects continue or start to live their lives without the designer being present? What if an object had to retire? Alessandro Mendini would have never retired.” The narrating voice is the one of Beatrice Felis, studio manager at Atelier Mendini for more than 30 years.
The 19th episode is the last one of Object Interview, a video project by Amsterdam-based director and conceptual designer Alexandre Humbert who investigates the soul of iconic designs from their own perspective. The series starred works from celebrity designers such as Michael Thonet, Carlo Scarpa, Nathalie du Pasquier, Formafantasma, Verner Panton, Shiro Kuramata and Alvar Aalto, among others. It was made in co-production with international cultural institutions ranging from museums to galleries, publishing houses and schools, involving designers, curators, archivists, music composers and artists from all around the globe.
