Bahía Blanca. A 70 sqm minimal house built with governamental support

The project by Bernardo Rosello is located in El Maíten residential district and has been built taking advantage of Argentina’s program ProCreAr.

A white and essential residence has been conceived and built by architect Bernardo Rosello. Sitting in a 730 sqm flat plot in El Maíten suburban residential district of Bahía Blanca, Argentina, the house was built thanks to the ProCreAr program, established by the Argentinian government to fight the country’s housing deficit through a loan that enables individuals and families to possess their own dwellings.

Bernardo Rosello’s project offers a living space of 70 sqm for a single user but an extension is already designed in case of enlargement of the family. The position of the house in the plot suggests this possibility, as the house overlooks a large lawn on one side, while the front side is free and potentially ready to host the second stage of the intervention.

The completed building is essential in terms of both form and space, as its structural system is organised following a fixed module. Vertical steel supports and laminated wooden beams are painted white and enclose a rectangular space, divided into three parallel bands: the 2,40 m gallery that opens towards the garden, a central one containing the living space, and the west-oriented side, closed by a corrugated metal surface. The materials chosen for the gallery that overlooks the lawn – translucent polycarbonate for the roof and glazed surfaces – mediate the relation of the house with the outdoor space.
