Colour, abstraction and customization are the three elements that celebrate 30 years of nanimarquina at the Salone del Mobile 2017. #MDW2017

When Nani Marquina founded her company in 1987, she was driven by the desire to create innovative rugs, sharing with the world that Spanish creative atmosphere in which she grew up. The brand celebrates its thirty years with special rug editions by Raw Edges, Jaime Hayon, Nani herself and young Turkish designer Begüm Cânâ Özgür.

Even if they both come from Spain, this is the first time that Hayon and nanimarquina work together: the striking result is a dreamy, wild collection of rugs that can be fixed on walls like humorous tapestry manufactured with the tufting technique, where a manually operated pistol injects pieces of wool. The chaotic composition brings turtles, lips, hands, stools, fish and other fantastic figures to life.

Hand-woven Kilim from Pakistan has been filled with colour thanks to Dutch duo Raw Edges, which transposed their obsession with colour to their first rug collection for the brand. The Blend rug is an analytic study of hues and perception. Solid surfaces interact with others that are constructed from lines, merging into the viewer’s eye to create new colours, applying the basic rules of colour theory, with three available models in which hue, luminosity, and saturation may vary. Also Begüm Cânâ Özgür uses colour for a prototype collection made of subtle gradients.
