Scarlet Splendour

Back at the Fuorisalone after their success last year, is the young Indian company founded by two designers, brother and sister Suman Kanodia and Ashish Bajoria.

Scarlet Splendour, who have attracted attention for their unique blend of Indian craft and Italian design, presents the Vanilla Noir collection designed by Matteo Cibic, that takes inspiration from the Indian tradition of furniture inlaid with bone and horn and reworks it with a contemporary fusion of polymers and pigments. “It’s very interesting working with Scarlet Splendour”, explains Matteo Cibic “ because I can work between Italy and India. The inspiration for the collection is a mix of the two countries and the craft techniques from both. The lamps are produced in Italy in ceramic while the inlay work is all done in India”.

Each piece of Vanilla Noir is produced in India, using traditional methods of working with inlay and the result is a collection that recalls the age of silent films: classics that are always entertaining and a pleasure to see again. This year sees the addition of two new pieces, also by Cibic: the chest of drawers A Trip to the Moon with its cylindrical body and the surreal “nose” and The Count, a tall, imposing bookcase, and a lamp from the Luce Naga collection, a family of LED lights in ceramic covered in 24 carat gold and glass. Also new is a collection of rugs, Karesansui in exquisite New Zealand wool and viscose that resembles Japanese gardens, and a series of brass vases designed by Dario Contessotto with Mirco Colussi.
