Gold Table

The table proposed by Hungarian designers Architecture Uncomfortable Workshop is an exploration on beeswax’s scent, used to inspire its future users.

Architecture Uncomfortable Workshop has been interested in the usage of beeswax in daily life for long time, this table is one of their attempts to integrate this material into a common environment.

Besides other characteristics, the most important feature of the beeswax is its scent, and though dealing with odours is quite rare in furniture design.

The wax was poured on the bottom surface of a glass sheet, between a wooden frame to which the legs were fixed from inside. So can the beeswax be seen, and the fragrance be smelled through the small holes on the side of the frame, and the wax being assumed with function by fixing the glass in horizontal direction. The wooden structure, which was designed to emphasize the golden coloured surface, separates the sheet of the table into three parts: two on the sides for storing and one in the middle for working, while the characteristic scent of the beeswax creeps out from the holes and embraces the people sitting around the table like a constantly growing cloud. The phrase “golden table” derived from the beeswax, that is on one hand the symbol of the sun such as the gold, on the other hand, as they hope, it inspirates the user of having the golden idea beside this golden table.
