Yes, Naturally

A new exhibition at the Gemeentemuseum Den Haag makes no distinction between nature and culture, subject and object, man and technology, presenting the works of over 80 artists, from Francis Alÿs to Ai Weiwei.

At the Gemeentemuseum Den Haag, in The Hague, The Netherlands, the new exhibition Yes Naturally seeks to present surprising partnerships between humans, nature and technology.

Making no distinction between nature and culture, subject and object, man and technology, the exhibition presents several scenarios: the possibility of designing your own pet, fungi turn out to be our best friends, you can harvest the city and seagulls are quite tasty on the barbeque. Simultaneously, the exhibition presents a reality in which the smartphone becomes your memory, Facebook is your habitat, internet the new biotope and nanoparticles have become an integral part of our existence.

The exhibition reunites sculptures, films, installations, performances and bioart by over 80 artists, such as Francis Alÿs, Jimmie Durham, Olafur Eliasson, Peter Fend, Fischli & Weiss, Natalie Jeremijenko, Marjetica Potrc, Zeger Reyers, Tinkebell, SUPERFLEX and Ai Weiwei.

Highlights of the exhibition include Keith Edmier's Victoria Regia, an enormous water lily in which nature and technology are combined; Mark Dion's Mobile Wilderness, a delicate representation of how humans create an image of nature and try to manipulate it; and In-Habit, a large, floating artwork by the Filipino artist duo Alfredo and Isabel Aquilizan, consisting of thousands of fetishes, objects made to protect species and places in nature — animals, trees, rivers.

Yes Naturally also offers a varied programme throughout the city, including urban wildlife safaris, performances, workshops, lectures and debates in art institutes and film houses.
