Five new devices to fight the pandemic

The international design competition jumpthegap awards five projects that make everyday life easier with innovative sanitization systems.

Jumpthegap is a biennial international design competition promoted since 2004 by Roca - a company dedicated to the design, production and marketing of products for the bathroom space - with the collaboration of BCD Barcelona Design Center and aimed at creatives and designers, with an eye to the future. In this delicate moment, globally marked by the pandemic and its health safety measures, the competition has widened its attention to ideas that allow to obtain perfect personal hygiene conditions in any environment and thus help to prevent the spread of the virus.

UVClean, Lidia Grifts, Italy and Ekaterina Epifanova, Russia

Five projects selected in this special edition of jumpthegap are: Bubble Bump, an instrument that automatically releases a liquid disinfectant in the form of soap bubbles to ensure that children can clean their hands with a moment of play; E-Tapis, a device to clean the soles of shoes using liquid disinfectant and UV light; Lux, disinfection system for public bathrooms with UV light; OM, sanitary totem that offers both a hydroalcoholic disinfectant gel dispenser and an infrared thermometer; UVClean, tap equipped with UV light cabin to disinfect objects such as smartphones and keys while the user washes his hands.

The jury of the competition highlighted the effort made by all participants to integrate functionality and design, with feasible (and non-conceptual) projects, mainly aimed at public spaces.
