Tel Aviv. A minimalist apartment turns red at sunset

White walls, black furniture and red frosted glass define a new apartment designed by Yael Perry in the heart of Tel Aviv, marked by minimalism and light tricks.

RED is a renovated 120 sqm luxury apartment in the heart of Tel Aviv conceived by interior designer Yael Perry. Its name derives from the reflections and shadows created by a single red window refracting the light on every environment. The new layout divides the residence in two zones: a public section on an open-plan kitchen and living area that opens up to a balcony, and a private one with a master bedroom, main bathroom, guest bedroom, home office and a small balcony for yoga. 

The white cube is a former concrete partition that now includes a landry room.

At the entrance there is a black steel frame that is dampened by a white cube – a pre-existing concrete partition that couldn’t be removed during the demolition work – including a laundry room. The kitchen and the living room, designed in dark grey, black & white tones, are based on the purest minimalism with a few prominent elements: three differently sized coffee tables by Nendo and a maxi sofa by Piero Lissoni. In front of it, paperback shelving systems looking like an “informale” artwork were hang and it beautifully blends with the light and shades during sunset time.

The master bedroom has a distinguishing mark: the bathroom is literally inside the room, with no dividing walls. The tub is next to the bed and the free standing sanitary units are partially hidden by a niche. The main bathroom has the same black sanitary units and walls are covered in a neutral tone. During the day a the light passing through the red translucent glass washes the bathroom in shades of red.

Minimalism, combined with bright tones, purist finishes and glazed glass, responds to the need to make the space, at first dark and furnished in an eclectic style mixing art deco with pop art elements, larger and brighter. Of an unexpected light.
