After twenty years of activity and growth, kurimanzutto gallery continues to get involved, wondering how to deal with the future and the most urgent issues of the current.
Changing the traditional exhibition format, Siembra / sowing, the one-year-long collective show (from February to December 2020) turns the gallery into a large organism in which many subjects coexist, independent and communicating with each other. The space, divided into seven sections, is conceived as a fertile ground in which spreading seeds, emphasizing biodiversity and different harvest’s rhythms. In this permeable system, the first works to be exposed are those of: Haegue Yang, Gabriel Orozco, Eduardo Abaroa, Daniela Rossell and Galen Jackson, Wendy Cabrera Rubio, Dr. Lakra and Minerva cuevas.
Many are the themes involved: Gabriel Orozco, who works with kurimanzutto gallery since the beginning, brings Veladoras Arte Universal, using pantyhose to create new geometric sequences and abstract motifs. Textile is also present in other works, as in Dress vehicle / totemic eclectic of South Korean Haegue Yang, which combines her installation sound elements; or in Pan-American Art Salón by Wendy Cabrera Rubio, which reveals the contradictions hidden between Mexican abstract art and political dynamics during the Cold War period. The languages of technology and their implications are inherent in the work of Eduardo Abaroa with Collector’s Series, on copyright and social claims and Computer with an Internet Connection by Daniela Rossell and Galen Jackson, a video art work that continuously rewrites its image by fishing elements from the net.
