On show in an exhibition that opens this evening at the NAI in Rotterdam (until 29 February) is the provocative architecture of Willem Jan Neutelings and Michiel Riedijk. Bordering at times on the limits of kitsch, the sculptural buildings of the Rotterdam based duo – such as the Egyptian museum of Giza or the concert hall in Bruges – always manage to become real urban icons.

Distinguishing features? Spectacular facades conceived as large drapes or curtains that dress the buildings and make then into points of reference for the city. On show are around fifteen projects, some of which have never been previously shown such as the Borneo Sporenburg Y-Tower in Amsterdam, the council building in Moscow and the Lakeshore Housing residential complex in Huizen,
