A Gadhinglaj, in India, RC Architects ha progettato una casa in un tessuto edilizio semi-urbano all’interno di un lotto stretto e lungo. L’impianto planimetrico vincolante, connotato da due affacci sui lati corti a sud-est e nord-ovest e da lati lunghi ciechi confinanti con altre proprietà, ha imposto di trovare nel gioco di pieni e vuoti all’interno della casa e nell’articolazione geometrica delle coperture la risposta alle esigenze di intimità domestica, benessere micro-climatico e multifunzionalità. La casa si sviluppa su due piani e si articola in una sequenza di spazi fluidi interconnessi. L’accesso dalla veranda su strada conduce al cuore fisico e simbolico della composizione: la zona giorno - con soggiorno, veranda e cucina - distribuita intorno ad un giardino interno. Al piano primo si collocano due camere da letto, collegate da una terrazza-giardino comune affiancata da fioriere e affacciata sul giardino al piano terra. Gli spazi aperti al piano terra e primo fungono da efficaci elementi di captazione di luce e aria consentendo, nel clima torrido del luogo, soluzioni passive per l’illuminazione naturale e la ventilazione incrociata.

Un’abitazione supera i vincoli del lotto attraverso una vivace dialettica tra pieni e vuoti e tra coperture diverse, per offrire uno spazio domestico flessibile e confortevole.

Come suggerisce il nome, “House with different roof” è una vivace composizione di quattro tipologie di coperture dalle forme geometriche diverse: i due tetti a falde in scandole sui fronti sud-est e nord-ovest, la copertura a “impluvio” sul giardino al piano terra e la copertura a traliccio in legno di pino che ripara la terrazza al piano primo. Oltre a proteggere dall'ambiente esterno e dal rumore, le coperture connotano giocosamente gli spazi abitativi, creando zone di aggregazione protette fruibili in modo diverso nel corso della giornata.
