The uncertain tableware by Maarten Baas

The new table accessories designed by Maarten Baas for Valerie Objects stand out for their sketched outlines determining a rough and irregular profile. A trait that faithfully reflects the Dutch designer's research as we knew it in his previous works - the seats for Lensvelt, the sofa and low tables for Moooi, his Clay Furniture’s collection - and that makes this spontaneous randomness a reason for ironic fun. 

In addition to the bumpy asymmetry, the plates are characterized by non-colours declined on the grey scale, while the glasses, also slightly asymmetrical, make transparency a deliberate contrast. The novelties, launched last January, complement the accessories previously produced for the Belgian brand: a service of cutlery and an imposing pepper mill that, like a miniature tower, seems to friendly scrutinize the entire table.
