The Raspberry Pi Foundation has launched the 4th generation of its popular Raspberry Pi microcomputer. The Pi 4 Model B comes equipped with a new 1.5GHz quad-core 64-bit ARM Cortex-A72 CPU (delivering almost three times the performance of its predecessor), Gigabit Ethernet, dual-band Wi Fi and Bluetooth 5.0, Two USB 3.0 and two USB 2.0 ports, dual monitor support via micro-HDMI and resolutions up to 4K thanks to 4Kp60 hardware decode of HEVC video. Additionally, the power is now delivered through a USB-C port, supporting an extra 500mA of current for better stability under heavy CPU load and USB-powered accessories connected in downstream. The Raspbian operating system has been revamped as well: based on the Linux Debian 10 Buster release, this new version of the Raspberry firmware brings under-the-hood enhancements as well as a major bug fixes and a modernised user interface. Raspberry 4 is quite a vigorous upgrade for the mighty little computer, which now offers a performance that - according to the Foundation’s claim - is on par with a desktop system. It’s available today with prices based on the amount of RAM: XX for 1GB, XX for 2GB, and eventually XX for the top-of-the-line 4GB version.
