German sustainable fashion label Armedangels has created an unexpected 14-piece collection that transforms Wikipedia's interface into streetwear. The initiative is meant to celebrate Wikipedia's 25th anniversary next year and features the online encyclopaedia's signature 'hyperlink blue' alongside white and yellow.
Designs include the emblematic'Blue Marble' photograph of Earth taken during the Apollo 17 mission in 1972 and Wikipedia's serif 'W' logo. Caps come with slogans such as 'Open Source of Information' and 'Yes, I know'. The collection also includes T-shirts, socks, and sweatshirts.
The campaign’s motto is 'For Fact's Sake: Think Responsibly", positioning the capsule collection in the somewhat fuzzy area of fashion activism.
"Information freedom is the foundation of informed decision-making, even in the fashion industry," says Martin Höfeler, founder and CEO of Armedangels. 'But this applies far beyond the textile sector: unrestricted access to information enables people worldwide to expose injustices, drive innovation, and actively shape their future.'
Every piece is made from 100% recycled cotton, and 12% of sales proceeds go directly to the Wikimedia Foundation.
