OMA is finishing its first skyscraper in Japan

Tokyo’s Station Tower will be a new global business center, as well as a mobility hub for the capital and the country.

Designed by Shohei Shigematsu and OMA New York, the Toranomon Hills Station Tower – OMA’s first tower in Tokyo and Japan – will be completed this fall, representing a milestone in the development of the Mori Building, a new global business center in Toranomon Hill, a neighborhood in Central Tokyo.

The Tower Station – 49 stories and 266 meters high – will be the final point of the new Shintora-dori Avenue, as well as a multi-layered transport hub that will connect the center of Tokyo with the rest of the country (and the world). It will also serve as a central station for the city and giving those who come a great feeling of welcome, thanks to its three-story atrium flooded with natural light.

The tower was designed by OMA as an extension of the surrounding activities. The base resembles a large funnel, to attract the visitors inside. A large pedestrian bridge will then connect the tower to the other buildings in the district, facilitating and simplifying the circulation of pedestrians and welcoming activities and green spaces.

The mixed-use project will host hotels, offices, retail spaces and an interactive communication forum – the TOKYO NODE, with galleries, studios, gardens, swimming pools and restaurants – which aims to bring creatives together, promoting collaborations that enhance different sectors such as art, business, entertainment, fashion, and technology.
