Hollywood inspired Zaha Hadid for this resort in Macau

ZHA designed Studio City Resort’s expansion in the Chinese city. Los Angeles was a reference not only for what concern entertainment, but also sustainability.

Zaha Hadid Architects (ZHA) had been invited in 2017 to expand the Hollywood-inspired development of “Studio City Resort” and he so-called ‘Studio City Phase 2’ – developed with Melco Resorts & Entertainment – is going to be completed in December 2022. The touristic destination will see new entertainment, leisure and hospitality facilities, including one of the largest indoor and outdoor water parks in Asia and a six-screen cinema complex.

The addition will feature two new towers, with a facade of vertical gradating glass, able to reduce solar heat and glare while maintaining at the same time thermal comfort for the guests inside.

Thanks to extremely efficient technological systems, the building will have a low energy demand. Furthermore, all timber and timber-based products need for the project have been harvested, traded and sourced in accordance with Forestry Stewardship Council Certification.
