Dutch designer Richard Hutten designed the Clover stool series for Japanese startup company Taiyou&C. Inspired by a clover, the shape is both organic and geometric, where the top view is a circle.

Inspired by two classics of design – Alvar Aalto’s Stool 60 and Sori Yanagi’s Butterfly stool – Richard Hutten created a wooden stool both for kids and adults.

Mikiya Kobayashi, the founder and creative director of Taiyou&C briefed Hutten to design a stackable wooden stool in two sizes, one for adults and one for children. The stool was crafted by the Fuji furniture factory in Japan renowned for its skilled craftsmen.
“I wanted to make a stool where East meets West without compromise, combining the best of both worlds” says Hutten. He combined the contrasting qualities of two classics of design – Alvar Aalto’s Stool 60 and Sori Yanagi’s Butterfly stool – adding a playful touch. The resulting Clover 3 and Clover 4 stool, where the number refers to the one of legs and leaves, uses a minimum amount of walnut and oak wood, making it light and easy to stack.
