10 years of colour

British design studio Giles Miller and Global Color Research present at London Design Festival the colour-explorative sculptural installation “10 years of colour”.

“10 years of colour” showcases the results of Giles Miller’s radical experimentation with surfaces, light and shadow manipulation, and presents the evolution of hues and colours during the past decade.

In Global Color Research’s Director, Carolina Calzada’s words: “This is the first time we open our archives to the general public so we are interested in exploring the unexpected, while offering visitors an inspirational experience into the movement of colour. Through Miller’s interpretation of how the different colour groups move we are looking to help people to understand how colour has evolved and developed from 2006 to 2016”.

“10 years of colour” consists of thousands of geometrically composed coloured tabs, reminiscent of RAL Colour chart leaves, which are organized in a sculptural latticed frame of about 3 metres height. The composition technique, in which the tabs are arranged, has been refined by Miller to ensure that each tab is angled to vary its reveal and the colour it exposes in a unique and interesting way.

As the viewer approaches the sculpture, the tabs reveal colour stories and combinations that expose themselves at varying angles, creating truly intriguing visual results. Approaching, one becomes immersed in a myriad of colours and tones that create a powerful sensory experience, and as one moves around the piece, the colours change relative to the viewers perspective.

The colourfully evocative installation brings light and warmth to the bustling area around surrounding Shoreditch High Street station, which acts and as the gateway to the Shoreditch Design triangle during the London Design Festival.
