Norwegian by Nature

“Norwegian by Nature: New Designs from Norway” is an exhibition of prototypes by Norway’s leading designers at the International Contemporary Furniture Fair in NYC.

Norwegian by Nature
Selected by design curator and writer Paul Makovsky, “Norwegian by Nature” explores the work of over 20 up-and-coming Norwegian design studios that survey the imaginative ways designers have engaged with sustainability, creating works with an emphasis on functionality and clean, simple lines.
It features a fresh range of home furnishings, from birch lamps inspired by the Norwegian landscape to hand-blown glass vases, crafted with materials and ideas that reflect the vibrancy and values of the Norwegian design scene today.

In order to show a true cross-section of Norwegian design, Makovsky traveled across Norway, visiting top design schools and studios as well as international design fairs to seek out under-the-radar talent.

The designers in the exhibition are definite rising stars in the Norwegian design world. Some are recent graduates while others are starting to garner international attention. All of the prototypes are making their North American debut. While the exhibit features prototypes, some of the designs on display have recently gone into limited production with a manufacturing partner, a testament to the growing strength of the Norwegian design scene.

A selection of classic mid-century modern Norwegian pieces that have recently been put back into production are exhibited alongside the prototypes, bringing the past, present and future of Norwegian design and manufacturing together.

These pieces have been curated by the creative team behind Oslo-based Fuglen, who have also designed the booth.
