It’s the mirror of current Italy to be showcased at MAXXI in Rome, through the works of the 13 most prominent Italian artists of the moment. “REAL_ITALY”, the exhibition co-produced by the Directorate General Contemporary Creativity of MiBACT, brings together the winners of the last two editions of Italian Council, investigating contradictions and the most urgent problems of the country.

Discrimination and social exclusion, integration, citizenship’s right, dialogue with the history and architecture’s languages: many themes are analyzed with a critical eye by the most relevant artists of the current italian panorama.

Like building abuse, mapped by Incompiuto. La nascita dello stile, Alterazioni Video’s project; the urban suburbs’ architecture, in the photographic series Le Baron Chéper by Nicolò Degiorgis, or the prison ones, through San Vittore movie by Yuri Ancarani. The reflection on the historical heritage is one of the most present themes: in Serie Imperiale (Zara e RSI), Flavio favelli exhibits two stamps from the series produced during fascism, while Come diventare un partigiano by Alice Gosti is a five-hour performance related to the history of the Partisan Resistance; Anna Franceschini’s CARTABURRO installation investigates the formal characteristics of Carlo Mollino’s work and the psychological and social implications the Turin architect’s gaze had on the female body. Important is also the today’s social friction and the will to put an end to it: the neon sculpture ZERO (Weak Fist) by Patrick Tuttofuoco represents a hand that is opening in a sign of acceptance and inclusion.
