Size: 465 square meters In India, Kaushal Tatiya Architects has designed a house inspired by the ancient wisdom of anthills to cope with the region’s extreme heat and ensure a comfortable indoor environment through passive design strategies. The building, with its sinuous and organic forms, is internally carved out by an interconnected system of openings, branches, cavities and narrow passages, courtyards and shaded walkways where, just like in an anthill, natural light and cross-ventilation circulate alongside the daily rituals of life. The solid shell of exposed brickwork, with its varying textures, gives the building significant thermal inertia, helping to mitigate temperature fluctuations and creating a living ecosystem capable of self-regulating its temperature and functioning as a collective organism in balance with its environment.
