A house suspended amongst the trees: a contemporary retreat by Taranti Arq Studio in Argentina

The architects organised House H7 around parallel concrete walls that evoke Mies van der Rohe's floor plans, combining fluid interior spaces with an openness towards the landscape.

Project name: House H7
Location: Buenos Aires, La Costa, Argentina
Dimensions: 175 square meters

On the coast near Buenos Aires, a house designed as a seasonal retreat blends discreetly into the landscape without compromising on a bold, contemporary design. The house appears to float in the forest like a suspended structure, supported by slender parallel concrete walls that incorporate the typical rhythm of spot structural supports, transforming it into a series of slabs fixed to the ground. The design is characterised by the interplay of flat surfaces, large glazed openings and the fluid flow of interconnected interior spaces. The lower level is dedicated to service areas and, when viewed in plan, recalls the appearance of Mies Van der Rohe’s Farnsworth House. The main floor's central core, comprising the kitchen and living room, organises the internal layout, separating the private area from the porch that opens onto the forest, complete with the inevitable grille. The material gravity of the concrete base is tempered on the living floor by a refined interplay of light materials — wood, steel and glass — and large transparent surfaces that blur the boundaries between interior and exterior.
