Itinerant Reading Room showcases best independent architecture publications

Presented on the occasion of the New Generations festival in Rome, Itinerant Office's installation brings together some of the most interesting editorial projects in the field of contemporary architecture.

Books, magazines, fanzines, independent publications and experimental formats are exhibited at the Reading Room that the Madrid-based Itinerant Office has set up inside the Royal Spanish Academy in Rome. The installation is conceived as a mobile device divided into six parts, composed of prefabricated industrial items customised with a modular metal structure.

The aim of the installation is to expose and narrate the work of emerging architecture studios, which often do not find space in the mainstream media. The projects on display were selected through an open call, involving over 150 emerging practices from 25 different countries. Reading Room is a tool to portray the vibrancy and diversity of perspectives of young European architects, but also to create connections between emerging designers and the cultural institutions hosting the installation.

The small exhibition was opened as part of the New Generations Festival, thus becoming a physical meeting place for the authors, and will be open until 3 September 2021.
