The Chemin des Carrières, the path of the quarries, is an invitation to walk, to discover forgotten landscapes or to redefine known landscape.
The Danish architectural studio Reiulf Ramstad Arkitekter creates a new narrative between the natural and artificial elements of the Rosheim valley – the stone quarries, the hills, the forest, the old train tracks and the vineyards – giving it breaks and rhythm.
Like along a railway, the route offers stops for travellers, each of which tells the story of the place and becomes a technical stop: where you can drink, have a rest or reach a nearby village.
Along the 11 km paved track, a maze-like pavilion, a large portal, the threshold between the forest and the clearing, a resting place telling about the railway and a sinuous promontory overlooking the Alsatian plain alternate with sections of preserved track in order to guide travellers.
The elements made of wood and corten steel recall the materials of the forest and those of the railway and blend with the colours of the forest.
In Alsace, an 11 km long trail follows forgotten traces
On the tracks of an ancient railway, the path designed by Reiulf Ramstad Arkitekter reinterprets the signs and memory of the landscape and crosses stone quarries and forests.
