A solid stone envelope protects intimate spaces inside a Spanish home

Designed by architect Marcos Miguelez in Leon, the VMS House has a heavy exterior appearance, while the internal spaces are open and bright.

In the city of Leon, Spanish architect Marcos Miguelez created the residence for a young couple. The project reinterprets in a contemporary key the tradition of building stone, for which thick walls guard the house's internal environments.

The articulation of the volumes adapts to the triangular shape of the plot. The solidity of the external cladding is counterbalanced by the internal lightness of the steel structure, which allows an open plan and visual connections.

A floating staircase characterises the living area and gives access to the upper floor, where a room for reading and study is located.
