On Goldsmiths University campus, a new public art gallery adds an important element of cultural and social regeneration to south London.

This article was originally published on Domus 1029, November 2018. The past bestows on us events and images in which everything overlaps, mingles and blends, often giving us the impression that it was always that turbulent and chaotic. Only rarely does history deliver pure clear images capable of channelling definitive answers, which would be in any case be partial considering the magnitude of the subject.

Therefore archaeological finds and historical architecture are always collages of the past ages, even in the case of the most authentic and intact buildings: it is history itself that creates chaos, different interpretations, different readings of the same event.

This building by Assemble, a conversion of the former Laurie Grove Baths, delivers a system of functional spaces, architectural solutions, formal experimentations, and work spaces of such quality that even its most negligible features take on a refined, contemporary and vital aesthetics.
