Swiss House presents a modular unicum of spaces and furnishings

Branger Architekten has renovated a house designed by Fritz Hansen in the 1970s and inspired by the USM modular system.

Inspired by the USM modular system, the residence that Fritz Haller built in 1977 in Solothurn, Switzerland, is based on a modular steel structure. "A house to live in which to exhibit a vast collection of art. Not a house for an art collection in which you can also live," said the Swiss architect, who with this method created several buildings such as single-family dwellings, pavilions and ateliers.

In 2015 Branger Architekten renovated the 450 square meter building, converting it into the studio's headquarters, together with their residence. The project is respectful of the history of the building, of which it preserves some spatial decisions and the selection of interior furnishings. Branger Architekten combines the modular structure of the house with that of the USM furnishings, which also have the same shades as the interiors. A block of black furniture defines the space of the staircase and becomes the central nucleus around which the open workspace on the ground floor revolves.

The house has the perfect affinity between space and furnishings, materials and colours, and living and working functions.
