Last week at MWC in Barcelona, Philips and Microsoft unveiled a new mixed reality concept to show how the operating room of the future could look like. The companies showcased a series of applications based on the Azurion image-guided therapy platform and Hololens 2, the latest version of Microsoft’s holographic AR glasses.
Thanks to a novel mixed reality setup doctors and nurses will be able to see and navigate the internal organs of the patient while performing micro-invasive surgeries (during which the instruments are inserted through a smaller incision and guided to the specific treatment area).
In Philips’ intention, the mixed reality operating room is the next step for its Azurion platform, which has already been used extensively to perform image-guided procedures that improve patient-outcome and help reducing costs.
