Alexa speaks Roman: Ale Giorgini signs the new illustrated edition

To mark the Jubilee Year 2025 and the 15th anniversary of Amazon Italy, the company launches its first European limited edition Echo device.

Bezos may be getting married in Venice, but Alexa stays loyal to Rome. Amazon celebrates 15 years of operations in Italy with a special tribute to the capital: “Echo Dot Limited Edition Rome”, the first European limited edition Echo device. The project is signed by illustrator Ale Giorgini, known to Domus readers for designing the header of the Modern Work section, who uses his distinctive graphic language to reinterpret the Eternal City’s monuments in a vibrant, pop-inspired key, departing from the standard Echo aesthetic.

The Echo Dot’s silhouette becomes a canvas for an aerial view of Rome, capturing the golden light of sunset and translating it into dynamic shapes: the Colosseum, Trevi Fountain, St. Peter’s Dome, the Pantheon, and other fragments of the city’s urban landscape trace out a map that reflects not only its monumental grandeur but also its everyday, lived-in soul. “I tried to capture that unique atmosphere that fills the streets of Rome when the afternoon sun, just before sunset, bathes the city in extraordinary golden hues. Conveying all the beauty of the Eternal City in a single illustration was an impossible task—so I focused on that magical moment, the one that moves me every time I return to Rome,” explained Giorgini.

In addition to its visual design, the voice experience has also been tailored to the local context. Alexa has learned Romanesco—the traditional dialect of Rome—and can now speak using typical phrases and expressions. To mark the launch of “Echo Dot Limited Edition Rome”, two new voice features have been introduced: a quiz on the history of Rome and a collection of urban legends and curiosities, turning the device into a small, interactive archive of the city's memory. Simply say, “Alexa, open the quiz about Rome” or “Alexa, tell me the secrets of Rome” to hear her effortlessly recount thousands of years of Roman history.

“In a year so meaningful for both Amazon and Rome”, said Giacomo Costantini, Country Manager of Alexa Italy, “we wanted to celebrate the Eternal City with a device that – through both its design and voice experience – captures the magic and uniqueness that only Rome can offer”. And while Bezos will be saying “I do” in Venice, Alexa’s heart is clearly in Rome.
