Rimowa, that is worldwide famous for its aluminium luggage masterpieces, and Vitra, the celebrated modern furniture design brand, have combined their respective specialities to create the Aluminium Stool, a limited-edition suitcase-stool unveiled during Art Basel 2025.
The Rimowa x Vitra aluminium stool not only combines the know-how of both brands, but also aims to tell the story of how travel—and its gestures, from moving to sitting to storing—has evolved. It’s an object that bridges “mobility and living,” speaking to contemporary lifestyles shaped by smart working and urban nomadism.
At the core of this ambivalent design is aluminium, a hallmark of both brands’ design ethos. The Aluminium Stool features Rimowa’s iconic grooved aluminium shell, mounted on Multiwheel® spinner wheels with integrated brakes to ensure both mobility and stability. The cushioned lid, upholstered in Vitra’s eco-friendly Laser RE fabric, is detachable via snap buttons and conceals a padded interior compartment with a 59-liter capacity and optional leather organisers.
Alongside the stool, the two brands are also introducing a reimagined version of the Vitra Toolbox, originally designed by Arik Levy in 2010. This new edition, crafted from anodised aluminium, retains the compact form of the original but is enhanced with recycled textile inserts that define its inner compartments. This too will be available as a limited edition: just 100 pieces at a recommended price of 550 euro.
