UNstudio has unveiled the face of the large residential complex Hannamdong-4 Residences, designed for Samsung C&T. The project will be located in the area between Mount Namsan, where the Seoul Telecommunication Tower stands, and the Han River, which runs through the city. While acting as a bridge between the two natural elements, which are currently separated by a densely built-up area, the ambitious project also aims to enhance the relationship between people and nature, responding to the primary need to be in touch with the natural world.

The design is inspired by the local flora: the X-shaped towers evoke the structure of the white pine trees once widespread in the area, while the O-shaped towers refer to the water lilies of the Han River. These elements, reinterpreted with contemporary materials and solutions, create a design that aims to combine nature and modernity, both in the facades with their sculptural aesthetics, and in the green terraces and water management systems. Samsung C&T has also planned to create five parks with a total area of 33,000 square metres.
"This project is not just about architecture" says Ben van Berkel, founder and principal architect of UNStudio, "it’s about shaping a future where people, community, and the environment thrive together.”
