To talk about kitchens, on May 22, we started with research in the Domus Archive on how the kitchen has been covered in the magazine over the past 50 years. From science fiction to home automation to kitchen environment design, the debate between theorists and designers revealed the changes that have transformed the kitchen from a service area to an increasingly central space in contemporary homes.

In the discussion about the future of the kitchen, moderated by Walter Mariotti, editorial director of Domus, with Giorgio Donà of Stefano Boeri Interiors and Simone Spalvieri of Spalvieri & del Ciotto designers, and Gianluca Vigato, HS Head of Advertising & Communication at Franke Home Solutions, the topics of sustainability, the relationship with the most advanced home automation that allows control of all appliance functions, energy, and materials were addressed.

Starting from the Mythos Water Hub system, a high-end faucet designed by Franke that dispenses water, always filtered, at room temperature, boiling, chilled, and sparkling, they questioned what the current relationship with the kitchen environment is. And what elements designers must consider when designing this area of the home.

Both designers noted how materials are key to combining sustainability with technology in the service of the kitchen as perceived by its users.
