Space10, IKEA’s design research lab based in Copenhagen, apparently “achieved what [it] initially set out to accomplish” in 2014, when it was created by Kaave Pour and Simon Caspersen. So, after a decade of innovative projects for IKEA, its only client, was dissolved on September 1.
The Lab, among its works, includes the development of the augmented reality app “IKEA Place” and also played an essential role in the opening of stores of the famous brand in urban locations, as well as in the organization of pop-up exhibitions and workspaces in Mexico City, New Delhi, New York, London, and Shanghai, but also in offering a more sustainable and healthy menu in its stores.
Space10 has also published two books, “Future Food Today” and “The Ideal City”, as well as important reports on topics such as solar energy, co-living, and youth culture. Among his most representative projects are “Couch in an Envelope”, on the influence of AI on product design; “Tomorrow’s Meatball”, on the future of food and farming; and “Urban Village”, linked to a new ownership model for housing.
