The Sky Mountain Pavilion of Sou Fujimoto has been finished. The light structure, overlooking the sea in Hainan, the southernmost Chinese province and a renowned vacation hotspot, blends harmoniously with the landscape.
The project is reminiscent of something halfway between a lagoon and the shape of a flap and is characterized by white rings with different inclinations and a central green space that in turn takes up the circular patterns. The project is pointed to the west so as to be an ideal place from which to watch the sunset over the sea. Inside there are almost 800 square meters of public spaces, including bookstores, cafes, temporary exhibitions and other activities.
With its pavilion, Fujimoto aims to promote a balanced relation between man-made environment and the natural one.
