The works of Dieter Rams on show in Milan

ADI Design Museum explores the connection between design, vision and survival with an in-depth exhibition project by Klaus Klemp on the work of German industrial designer Dieter Rams, advocate of “less, but better” and author of the famous quote “Good design is as little design as possible”. In the second half of the 20th century, Rams designed more than 350 products for home appliance company Braun and furniture manufacturer Vitsœ, still used daily by thousands of people around the world and of great inspiration for contemporary designers.

Reporting the words of Rams: “What does it mean to look forward? First and last it is to look to the past. For me, looking to the future has always been part of the design process [...]. It is not a continuation of a particular style of product, but an approach and an attitude, a way of thinking about the future of things. Designers should always aim to change the world for the better, even a little, because the world won’t improve on its own. The product itself no longer occupies a central role and design involves new behavioral structures. The precarious environment and climate, combined with the fragility of the global economy, require a new attitude towards things”.
