Not just the Salone. All events cancelled or postponed because of the Coronavirus

While the Venice Biennale has announced that the 2020 edition will be held regularly, dozens of events have suffered the indirect effects of the virus.

Covid-19 – that is the formal name of the virus that originated in Wuhan, China – has infected more than 83,000 people and killed more than 2,700 people globally. But in addition to the medical aspect, the so-called Coronavirus is disrupting the global economy, causing the closure of schools, shops, bars and restaurants, the blockade of railway stations and airports, and the cancellation of various events.

The biggest concern is that the disease may disrupt the opening of the Olympics, which will be held in Tokyo in July. The promoters have stated that the 2020 Games will go ahead as planned, but it will be necessary to verify that the disease will be 100% contained in order to be able to start. Also the organisers of the Venice Architecture Biennale – to be held from 23 May to 29 November 2020 – have confirmed that the event will be held regularly on the scheduled days.

However, many events related to architecture, design, art and technology have recently been cancelled or postponed. The Salone del Mobile, scheduled from 21 to 26 April 2020 and postponed until June, is only the tip of the iceberg...
