“Highlighting the vitality and originality of young European architecture”. A call is open for a competition created by Ca’Asi, an interdisciplinary space founded in 2009 by Parisian firm Architecture-Studio to “promote the dialogue between architecture, contemporary art and visitors to the Venice Biennale.” The competition is therefore contributing to the constitution of a constant presence of Ca’Asi at the Biennale through the last decade. This call has been in fact preceded by four former ones, all of them aiming to promoting and narrating new scenes and new topics in the architecture from different contexts of a global scenario: The New Chinese Architecture (2010) Young Arab Architects (2012), Young Architects in Africa (2014) Young Architects in Latin  America (2018).

CATIA 100, Caracas, Venezuela, by Aparatos Contingentes. One of the three winning projects from Young Architects in Latin America, the call by Ca'Asi for the 2018 Venice Architecture Biennale. (A selection of the mentioned projects can be found in the gallery above)

Submissions are accepted until next February 14; selected projects will become part of an exhibition at palazzo Santa Maria Nova in Venice, which will be part of the program of the 2020 Architecture Biennale. The call is open to subjects that have been working in the field of architecture and heritage creation and / or preservation for less than 15 years, that must be EU nationals and must present projects conceived for a specified list of European states.

To provide the broadest and most inclusive description possible of an emerging scene, a specific competition subject has not been identified. Still, a particular attention is expressed towards proposals that explore the realm of the transformation of architecture: “This competition represents a unique opportunity to showcase the important role contemporary European architecture plays in finding innovative solutions to improve living conditions on our fragile planet. (…) We are particularly sensitive to emerging topics (…) including the following lengthy list: the energy transition, resource scarcity, new living modes, participatory processes, the circular economy, diversity as a response to ‘how we will live together’, the imagination as a medium of constructive rigour, the duality between periphery and centrality in territorial expression, and the exercise of the profession based on a new method of commissioning management, the digital revolution has altered our conception and production modes...”
