A new museum dedicated to Gio Ponti is set to open in Milan by the end of the year

Inside the Adi Design Museum, a museum will chronicle the life and career of the architect and founder of Domus.

A new monographic museum on the architect who shaped Milan's Modern will open within the spaces of Milan's Adi Design Museum. The announcement came from the Lombardy Region's Councillor for Culture, Francesca Caruso, during the press conference at the museum to present the "In-Play" exhibition, part of the Milan Cortina Foundation's Cultural Olympiad 2026.

This place will not only be an exhibition space, but a permanent reference point for understanding the cultural legacy of a unique historical figure.

"This place will not only be an exhibition space, but a permanent point of reference for understanding the cultural legacy of a unique historical figure, capable of combining the identity of Italian design with an international vision," said Francesca Caruso. Indeed, the legacy of Gio Ponti goes far beyond the boundaries of architecture: it crosses design, publishing, art and the many forms of design thinking, areas that the architect explored with the same experimental and curious approach that marked his entire career.

The initiative stems from an agreement between the Region of Lombardy and Adi, which will shape the museum within its own spaces, in the city where Ponti lived and worked throughout his life, contributing decisively to the construction of its modern identity.

The announcement comes on the heels of the opening of the Winter Olympic Games. "In the days when the country will be a showcase for the world thanks to the Olympics to be able to announce a museum dedicated to a great Lombard, a protagonist of design, twentieth-century architecture and "making Italian," takes on an even stronger meaning, because it links the tale of our cultural heritage to the international dimension that the Games will bring to the area."
