Last night at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles was the 96th Oscar ceremony, that’s how it went. Although for many it is an overrated film, Oppenheimer the one who won the most awards ever, including Best Film, Best Director to Christopher Nolan (who had not yet won an Oscar), Best Actor in a Leading Role to Cillian Murphy, best-supporting actor in Robert Downey Jr., best editing, best photography, and best soundtrack.

Emma Stone was awarded Best Actress in Poor Things!  by Yorgos Lanthimos, a film that was also awarded for the best costumes, best make-up, and scenography – it was not by chance that we had already talked about it. Da’Vine Joy Randolph, with her role in “The Holdovers” – Alexander Payne’s Life Lessons, won the award for Best Supporting Actress, after winning the Golden Globe Critics Choice Award, the BAFTA Award, and the Screen Actors Guild Award for the same film.

The award for Best Original Screenplay went to Anatomy of a Fall, while American Fiction won the award for Best Non-original Screenplay. Jonathan Glazer’s The Zone of Interest won Best International Film and Best Sound Effects. The best animated film, as was to be expected, was The Boy and the Heron by Hayao Miyazaki; and the best documentary was 20 Days in Mariupol by director and journalist Mstyslav Chernov, who filmed the siege of the Ukrainian city testifying to the atrocities of the war. Billie Eilish and her brother, Finneas O’Connell, won the award for Best Song with the touching What Was I Made For? of the Barbie soundtrack.
