Kengo Kuma’s next project could be in Noto, Sicily’s capital of Baroque

The Japanese architect could sign the project of the new Museo Nazionale del ‘900 Siciliano, in the former Littara building.

Former Littara school, in Via Cavour in Noto, Italy, could host the new Museo Nazionale del ’900 Siciliano (National Museum of Twentieth Century Sicilian Art). The three-story building has remained unused until today and to redevelop it is thought will require at least 10 million euros.

The idea of the museum – which will consist of six different sections: painting, sculpture, photography, cinema and music – has already been discussed in Rome in recent months, supported in particular by art critic Vittorio Sgarbi. In this regard, the Japanese architect Kengo Kuma made an inspection accompanied by the mayor Corrado Figura and Gianni Filippini from Mediatica.

The Council of Noto expects to start collaborations with other public and private institutions, also to bring significant works to the city, and provides an exhibition in line with the Icom (International Council of Museums) standards.
