Inspired by a small boat, the Spiaggina was designed in the Fifties to be used in seaside towns. In its original version, produced by Carrozzerie Boano, only two were produced, one for Gianni Agnelli and one for Aristotele Onassis. If the Onassis’ one was destroyed in a car accident, the one that Agnelli used until the Seventies for short trips in Villa Leopolda – his summer estate in Villefranche-sur-Mer – is now in Turin and has been auctioned off.
Without doors and pavilion – replaced by an awning, just like on boats to shelter from the sun – the Spiaggina has a waterproof interior, so you can use it even after a bath, wood trim, Nardi steering wheel, and wicker seats. “This is one of the most exclusive cars in history,” explains the auction caste Sant’Agostino. "This model became very popular in the Sixties because it is constantly portrayed in magazines around the world together with its owners”.
The current estimate goes from 700 thousand euros to one million and the car will be the highlight of the auction that will take place on Thursday, September 8 in Turin, during the AutoLook Week festival.
