On show at Galleria Corraini until October 31, two solo exhibitions on material, language, fixity and change. “Generations”, the series of five ceramic vases by the sculptor-designer Andrea Anastasio, and “Fioroni Alphabet” by Giosetta Fioroni, whom the Museo del Novecento in Milan has just dedicated the great retrospective “Viaggio sentimentale” (“sentimental journey”). Both linked to the gallery, Anastasio and Fioroni embody Corraini’s two different souls: the creativity of a fluid, playful and multidisciplinary design, and the simple, clear and “emotional” communication of a language for everyone.

The designer Anastasio – who worked for Artemide, Memphis and Alchimia, among others – turns into the well-rounded artist who has drawn Ettore Sottsass’ and Bruno Munari’s attention. The manufacturing of his work, so liberating and energetic in the manipulation of a material philosophically seen as a vital spirit, reveals here all its expressive urgency. His glazed ceramic vases are all ‘perfectly’ broken and their rupture is harmonic, almost metaphysical. A sort of disfigured beauty that the theologian Vito Mancuso – and Dostoevskij before him – well explained in his best-seller book Me and God: “There is no beauty that is not crossed by a painful fracture”.
The same fracture mentioned by Anastasio talking about clay as a material that “has survived trends and anthropological, economic and political changes”. A ‘painted’ material, in Giosetta Fioroni, who dyes our 21 letters with all their expressive charge.
